Health and Other Benefits
Water naturally passing through some rock including limestone and shale will collect calcium and magnesium causing "hard water." Hardness minerals can cause scale build up in pipes, water heaters and in plumbing fixtures. Scale build-up in water heaters acts as an insulator, making water heaters less effective and more expensive to operate. Hard water can also cause more frequent repairs or premature replacement in other appliances such as dishwashers and clothes washers. Soft water prevents this scale build-up, to protect plumbing fixtures and finishes, and increase appliance life. It also makes your skin and hair feel better, makes housework easier and allows you to save on cleaning products.

Treating water in your home removes the bad tastes and odours in the water used for drinking, cooking and cleaning, eliminating the need for buying expensive bottled water. Laundry comes out brighter, cleaner and softer; spotting  or etching of dishes and glassware is reduced; and showers, tubs and sinks are easier to clean.

In addition to the above, precipitation (whether rain or snow) carries contaminants from pesticides and fertilizers into our water supply, posing possible health risks. Various processes can remove or significantly reduce some of these potentially harmful substances, including arsenic, chlorine, iron, lead, mercury, and pcb. Click on the table on the right for a detailed list of substances effectively removed by sediment filters, taste and odour filters, softeners, chemical contaminant filters, reverse osmosis systems and vented distillers.
